Vision Keynote Highlights at Microsoft Ignite 2019

Microsoft’s biggest event of the year has just kicked off, Microsoft Ignite 2019 on Monday 4th November in Orlando, Florida.

The Keynotes were during the early hours of the morning in Australia. However, WebVine was up and eager to watch. Satya Nadella’s Vision Keynote was epic, focusing on Tech intensity and all the layers of the Microsoft Ecosystem from Azure Hardware right up to Microsoft 365. The Vision Keynote had everything from Quantum computing (Azure Quantum) to Advanced Analytics powered by Azure Synapse.

During Satya’s presentation, he released some very interesting facts that you should be aware of when considering your Collaboration and Digital Workplace strategies:

  • 73% of the data that is flowing around isn’t being analysed. You’re unable to drive value with your data if you are not utilising it
  • If you’re multitasking it takes you 25 minutes to get back into a task
  • While multitasking you lose 40% of your productivity
  • 350 organisations with over 10,000 employees each are using Microsoft Teams

As Satya’s Keynote presentation was unfolding, Twitter, LinkedIn and blog sites were going into overdrive. Even though Satya had yet to mention Office 365 in his presentation there was already lots of information being released through twitter. It was hard to stay focused on the Keynote and not check in on the latest Office 365 and Microsoft Teams features that were being announced.

While there is a full list of new features for Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online, we have hand picked some of the key features that we feel the community has been shouting out for.

Microsoft Teams

Private channels

Private channels enable users to create channels within existing teams that can be viewed and accessed by only select members of that team. Users can create a private channel by selecting "Private" under the privacy settings of the new channel.

Multiwindow

Multiwindow capability provides users the option to pop out chats, meetings, calls or documents into separate windows to help you streamline their workflow.
